Since Tobey Maguire’s presence as Spidey in Spider-Man 4 is far from being certain, some people are foreseeing Jake Gyllenhaal as a good prospects to wear the uniform. Particularly since Sony has chosen James Vanderbilt as the new screenwriter of Spider-Man 4. Gyllenhaal had already been considered for different reasons in Spider-Man 2 and has played in Vanderbilt’s latest movie, ‘Zodiac’.
What do you guys think? Jake Gyllenhaal as Spider-Man?

I had read somewhere that the producers have learned their lesson from Spider-Man 3 and plan to use just 2 villains in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 movie. I think that’s a good idea since personally, I didn’t think we had enough time on Venom in SM3. In the comics, he has a greater and wider role so it would have seemed logical to put more focus on him. So limiting the number of villains in Spider-Man 4 might be a good idea.

Following the release of the Spider-Man 3 DVD, there’s a few fans (like me) wanting to know more about what’s going to happen in Spider-Man 4. Well, it appears that Sony is one step closer to making it happen as it has been reported that James Vanderbilt will be doing Spider-Man 4’s screenwriting.
Vanderbilt is known for having done a fair job on the script for the 2007 Zodiac movie. He is also doing the writing for the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, scheduled for 2009.
How’s that going to turn out? Well, Vanderbilt is known for working with the characters personalities rather than focusing on visual effects, so he might feel pressure at some point to meet the great expectations fans have in that matter. It might however be a welcome change to the previous movies.
In other ‘non-news’, there are still no confirmations that either Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst or Tobey MaGuire will participate in Spider-Man 4. Add that to the pressure on Vanderbilt to create something exceptional to attract not only the fans, but also the cast and key crew itself.
